He is 3, and I am 33

What a coincidence!
Yup, I know.
Look at the perfect numbers.
You will never get this combination, ever again!

The Date : 27th March 2011
The Event : Arif's and Mommy's Birthday Celebration
Venue : Home sweet home

Arif was born a day before my birthday, on 28th March 2008
He was my birthday present.
And yes, I did celebrated with a birthday cake whilst in the hospital ward on the very next day of the delivery!

I am truly grateful, but at the same time I am very sensitive with this issue of him stealing my limelight.
Ever since I was little, my dad pampered me like a princess and my birthdays were always been a blast.

Birthdays have been a very important event in my family.
They were never left out.
Never forgotten.
And that's why each person deserves his/ her own cake, although the celebration is combined.
Thanks to Mak Ngah (my sister in law) for Arif's  enormous Chuggington chocolate cake.

And thanks to Chu Jah (my fabulous little sister) for my Alexis Pavlova cake!

Hey, don't judge the book by its cover.
This is Alexis's that we're dealing with.
Expected to crack, but hell yeah, the taste was nothing less than marvellous!!

Our main dish was the curry mee, with barbecued chicken, lamb and sausages.

Thanks to Zack, my sister's boyfriend, for being our bbq chef.
He surely scored tons of brownie points that day, for the perfectly cooked meat.

Thanks to my crazy sister in laws for the always fun havoc!

Million thanks to my mom, dad and hubby for making this weekend as planned.
Thanks to my aunts/ uncles and relatives for the wonderful presents.
Thank you sooo much for coming because your presence were the best gifts ever!

Bunsen Burner !

Recalling my secondary school years, in science lab sessions.
Using the Bunsen Burner.
Ohhh those were the fun days, indeed!
Thanks to google for rekindling the memories.
In commemoration of Robert Bunsen, the German chemist - and his 200th birthday anniversary, Google celebrates it by putting this Doodle on the search engine page.
And the best thing is that the Doodle actually interacts with your cursor.
Just move it around the page and you will actually see the bunsen burns higher as the cursor moves to top page and burning fire gets lower as cursor moves downwards, and it will affect the water levels boiling too!!
ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT !!
Quickly go and click google search engine, in case you haven't.

Darrniiit that I couldn't save the doodle as gif.
Let me know if any of you knows how to save this.

1Malaysia spirit in Arif

I am ashamed at myself for not knowing about this 1Malaysia song.
Whilst Arif has learnt it by heart.

And he's been so excited with the Malaysia flag too.
He will yell out "satu malaysia" whenever there's a flag in sight.
So you can imagine the excitement when we gave him a huge flag, to swoosh, and swish with all his might.

It all began when Arif started to hang around with his grandma at times when my parents were watching the TV1 news.
And this "Satu Malaysia" song by LimKokWing - the Merdeka Edition, shall be aired after the news.
With the help of Nekya, who loves singing too, Arif easily learnt this song just within a week.

(SATU MALAYSIA by LIMKOKWING)
Dunia kian berubah
Perubahan melingkari
Melaksana hasrat hati
Kejayaan terbukti

Dunia yang megah
Dengan misi yang gagah
Kerana perpaduan
Kita masih bersama

Kita satu bangsa, Kita satu Negara
Kita satu matlamat, oooo
Kita satu bangsa, satu Negara
Kita satu Malaysia

Bermulanya sekarang
Perjalanan dilaksana
Seia sekata sehati dan sejiwa

Membina masa hadapan
Menuju kejayaan
Kita semua rakyat Malaysia
Harmoni, saling menghormati

Chorus:
Kita satu bangsa, Kita satu Negara
Kita satu matlamat, oooo
Kita satu bangsa, satu Negara
Kita satu Malaysia
Arif maybe small, and I'm sure he doesn't even know what the song means anyway.
But his enthusiasm in life, really something that we adults could learn to appreciate and not to always take for granted.

Bye bye toothy

This post is to mark a very memorable event.
I took Amin to the dentist this morning, to pull his loose front baby teeth.
He was such a braze boy.
I tried to distract him from the fact by bringing the iPad along, and talking about games etc while waiting for our turn.

When it's time for us to go inside the room, I told him the dentist will just have a look at it.
I didn't catch the dentist's name but she was not wearing any mask, has a beautiful smile and very chatty with everybody, making the kids and parents too, felt comfortable with her.
She started with the normal tooth inspection and praised Amin for taking care of his teeth.
She asked about school, friends, and stuffs.
And while talking, she dabbed with the soft cotton, the strawberry flavoured antiseptic or whatever the powder was, onto his front teeth, hold a dental pliers with another hand, and as fast as lighting, she pulled the teeth off!!
My heart stopped beating at the sight of her hand clasping the dental pliers.
Thank god Amin didn't see it because he was lying on the chair facing up, or else he might be running off!
Heck, I would do to!
But then, it was a relieved for me to see that she didn't have to yanked the teeth at all because it was already very loose.
She merely even made an effort to pull it out, either.
And Amin only let out a tiny shrieked the moment she gripped the teeth with the pliers, and walla!
Done!
Kudos to the public clinic for being so efficient and having very friendly dentist and staffs.

Oops I did it again !

Can't help it.
They are sooooooo gorgeous!!
I bought the whole store this time.
Ok, that's exxagerating.
Just nine pieces to be exact.
Not that much, right?
Bwahahahhaa
Such pretty colours.
And lovely stripes too.
Don't cha think so?
Yeah, as crazy as this may look, I hope I did it right, the shawl styling, I mean.
Oh well, as long as style-covered, right? hehe

Marry Me

I can't believe I missed out on this song.
It's soooooo romantic!
It's like falling in love all over again.
Seriously!
No kidding!
Train is an American band of 3 guys and the beauty of this song is that they only used a guitar and a piano.
The symphony is just perfectly beautiful.

(MARRY ME by TRAIN)
Forever can never be long enough for me
Feel like I've had long enough with you
Forget the world now we won't let them see
But there's one thing left to do

Now that the weight has lifted
Love has surely shifted my way

Marry Me
Today and every day
Marry Me
If I ever get the nerve to say hello in this cafe
Say you will
Mm-hmm
Say you will
Mm-hmm

Together can never be close enough for me
Feel like I am close enough to you
You wear white and I'll wear out the words I love
And you're beautiful
Now that the wait is over
And love and has finally shown her my way

Marry me
Today and every day
Marry me
If I ever get the nerve to say hello in this cafe
Say you will
Mm-hmm
Say you will
Mm-hmm

Promise me
You'll always be
Happy by my side
I promise to
Sing to you
When all the music dies

And marry me
Today and everyday
Marry me
If I ever get the nerve to say hello in this cafe
Say you will
Mm-hmm
Say you will
Marry me
Mm-hmm

What big lollipop you have there?

The better to eat you with, my dear!
This is the very first time we bought such huge lollipop.
So, that's the reason for Arif extra-sweet poses.
We bought this at the airport, last 22nd January, while we went to pick mil and sil from their first vacation trip this year, which was to Saigon, Vietnam.
Truth be told, this lollipop is not actually as large as it seems.
It's just a casing.
And there are exactly 15 normal sized lollipops in there.
So, please refrain from buying this, the next time you see it.
This shall be a reminder especially to my dear hubby, because he was the one that got so excited seeing this lollipop at the candy store.
Oh well, at least, the kids had fun playing with it for a while.. LOL.

How many is too many?

Yikess.
I can't answer that.
Because when I like something, I tend to get them in multiples.
Be it shoes, clothes, scarves, handbags and even iPhone4 cover!
I think I inherit this from my dad.
Coz when he likes something, he will buy in 2 units, one to use, and one for spare.
Be it his car repair tools, knives, and especially fishing gadgets.
So, ok, that quantity 2 does not applicable to me, but, you get where the genes coming from.. haha..

Anyway, this came today.
One parcel only.
But with 5 thingy in the belly.
Can you guess what they are?
Maybe this picture will help.
See the fringe?
You got that right, Pashmina !!
Yes, it is the tudung fever all over again.
Remember my bling bling fever last year?
This time, it's shawl / pashmina.
Looks like an average plain coloured pashmina, huh?
Well, wait till you see this.
It's actually gradient shades!
Ohhhh, I lurvvvv it !!
How cool is that??
I'm so excited, I just have to blog about it.
It took me some time to find lovely gradient shaded pashmina like this.
So, that's why I have to buy them in multiples.
Making a début, presenting..
Me !
And the grey gradient pashmina !
Ta-daaaa!!

Lets talk about HFMD

This is a special post.
For educational purposes, and knowledge sharing.
Since I am currently at home taking care of Arif this week, I have the privileged to google up for more info on HFMD.
As scary as it may sound, it is stated that this is a common disease infecting infants and children below age 10 years old.
It is moderately contagious and is spread through direct contact with the mucus, saliva, or feces (urine/ stool) of an infected person.
Quarantine period is 3–7 days.
It is uncommon in adults, but those with immune deficiencies are very susceptible, and when infected, it could be fatal.
Babies born to mothers who have symptoms of enteroviral illness around the time of delivery are more likely to be infected.
Hence, pregnant women must practice good hygiene to decrease the risk of infection during pregnancy and around the time of delivery.

This HFMD is caused by the Cocksckie A virus which tend to infect the skin.
Early symptoms are likely to be fever often followed by a sore throat.
Loss of appetite and general discomfort may also occur.
First two days after the onset of fever, painful sores may appear in the mouth and/or throat.
A rash may become evident on the hands, feet, mouth, tongue, inside of the cheeks, and occasionally the buttocks (but generally, the rash on the buttocks will be caused by the diarrhoea.)

In my case, Arif didn't get any fever, and doesn't loose appetite either.
Doc said we're lucky that this could just be a mild one.
Treatment?
None.
Yup.. no vaccine nor antiviral drugs to make it go away.
Just calamine lotion, to make sure external spots are dry and sooth the itchiness.
And the paracetamol, for fever, if any.
And allergy syrup, in case to relief the aches.
Doc said there are cases which requires antibiotic, and that is when the throat has been infected badly.
Hence the immediate and thorough check up is important to determine the level of HFMD caught.

The tip is to make sure your child is cool, clean and dry all the time.
Wear light, thin clothing and placed them under the fan.
Drink loads and loads of water to relief the mouth ulcers, ease swollen throat, and to prevent dehydration.
If they have fever, sponging with water is necessary.
Cool on the inside of the mouth is crucial too- and that's where the ice cream plays its most important role.
