Just another day in another year

Arif woke up at 4am shivering, with high fever.
Then, woke up again at 7am with the same thing.
Gave him the syrup, and got him to sweat an hour later.
By 10am, he's up coughing and hard to stop it.
Could be the tonsil.
It has been very hot and dry for the past few days, and I bet that must be the cause of it.

Hence, today, it will just be porridge for lunch.
Drink loads of water.
And best for us to just stay at home.

So, how was your day?

Hooray for Glucolin

Once again, Arif was having bad stomach ache a couple of weeks ago.
He vomited since the break of dawn and got me worried sick.
By noon, there's practically nothing in his stomach as he kept vomiting every single thing that we gave him.
And he's already scared of eating anything.
We took him to the doc and he said it was just gas.
But perhaps the gas was too much, causing him to constantly vomit, even the medicine got out.
We were advised to give him small bites of food, with time gap, like a munch in a few minutes.
Just to slowly get the food into him.

I almost forgot that we have this glucose Glucolin blackcurrant drink.
Oh thank god for my Glucolin-born-fanatic-hubby! hahaha.. yes, this is hubby's drink!
And it's a must to stock up, during the upcoming fasting month of Ramadhan.

Just to note, for vomiting kids, best to give glucose to cover the loss of water and to provide instant energy.

And for the food, I made small cuts bread with nutella.
First, take a white bread.

Then, remove the edges and cut it to 9 squares.

Next, splat the nutella on top.
There you have it, Arif called it baby-nutella !

And this was what left of it, after 30 minutes of slow and steady munching.
Phew.. no more vomiting after that.

And of course, with every baby-nutella, must come the big-brother-nutella too.
Amin's nutella is slightly bigger than Arif, of course.
I made the 4 square-cut for him.
Simple and cute.
And the most important is that, it works !

I hate headache !!

I was having a major headache yesterday.
And it lasted for almost the whole day!
I woke up in the morning feeling like there's a drum planted in my brains.
Every step that I took, followed by a thud inside the head.
It's like I can't move because the movement creates internal vibe that rocked the head.
I took 2 pills of panadol at around 9am, but had to endure the headache until 4pm !
What took it so long to work??
Demmmiiittt!

If you have any tips for fast headache relief, please share it with me.
I desperately need to know.

And just a note, sorry to all my colleagues/ friends for my lack of focus yesterday.
I can't thank you enough for your understanding and support..
You people are the best! Muahhsss!!

Lets talk about HFMD

This is a special post.
For educational purposes, and knowledge sharing.
Since I am currently at home taking care of Arif this week, I have the privileged to google up for more info on HFMD.
As scary as it may sound, it is stated that this is a common disease infecting infants and children below age 10 years old.
It is moderately contagious and is spread through direct contact with the mucus, saliva, or feces (urine/ stool) of an infected person.
Quarantine period is 3–7 days.
It is uncommon in adults, but those with immune deficiencies are very susceptible, and when infected, it could be fatal.
Babies born to mothers who have symptoms of enteroviral illness around the time of delivery are more likely to be infected.
Hence, pregnant women must practice good hygiene to decrease the risk of infection during pregnancy and around the time of delivery.

This HFMD is caused by the Cocksckie A virus which tend to infect the skin.
Early symptoms are likely to be fever often followed by a sore throat.
Loss of appetite and general discomfort may also occur.
First two days after the onset of fever, painful sores may appear in the mouth and/or throat.
A rash may become evident on the hands, feet, mouth, tongue, inside of the cheeks, and occasionally the buttocks (but generally, the rash on the buttocks will be caused by the diarrhoea.)

In my case, Arif didn't get any fever, and doesn't loose appetite either.
Doc said we're lucky that this could just be a mild one.
Treatment?
None.
Yup.. no vaccine nor antiviral drugs to make it go away.
Just calamine lotion, to make sure external spots are dry and sooth the itchiness.
And the paracetamol, for fever, if any.
And allergy syrup, in case to relief the aches.
Doc said there are cases which requires antibiotic, and that is when the throat has been infected badly.
Hence the immediate and thorough check up is important to determine the level of HFMD caught.

The tip is to make sure your child is cool, clean and dry all the time.
Wear light, thin clothing and placed them under the fan.
Drink loads and loads of water to relief the mouth ulcers, ease swollen throat, and to prevent dehydration.
If they have fever, sponging with water is necessary.
Cool on the inside of the mouth is crucial too- and that's where the ice cream plays its most important role.

The dream life of a 3 year old.

  • Be at the comfort of own home, no need to go to nursery.
  • Get to play with all his toys, and big brother's toys too.
  • Watch cartoon network and playhouse disney channel the whole day.
  • Unlimited access to ice creams and iced-water!
My almost 3 year old Arif is hit with HFMD this week.
And hence we're in quarantine.
Sent his big brother to hometown with my parents.
So, it's just me and him at home now.
That's why he gets to play freely with all of Amin's toys, coz Amin is not here.
And according to doctor, ice cream and cold drinks help sooth the pain inside the mouth.. so, let him indulged in it.
Sounds like a dream, huh?

Man down, man down !!

It's BOY down, to be exact.
My soon-to-be 3 year old Arif is now down with HFMD.
What on earth is that?
It's the Hand, Foot & Mouth Disease.
We noticed these spots last night but I thought it was just mosquito bites.
So, I told hubby to put Mopiko ointment on it.
He didn't developed any fever and no loss of appetite either.
That's why we couldn't suspect this earlier.
Until this morning, as I was about to change his diaper, I noticed the same spots like, on his palm.
It's obvious.
Something is not right.
We diverted our nursery-route to the nearest clinic.
And no doubt, quarantine is the word enhanced by Dr. Johari.
So now, Arif is officially (and happily) on nursery-break, for the next 7 days.
Hope nothing serious turns out later.
Wish him well !!

Another feverish week

Arif is currently on feverish week.
Tonsillitis, as expected.
Fever shoot almost 40 especially at night time, during sleep.
Doc gave antibiotics.
And we're piling up stock for cooling water 'air badak' for drinking, kool fever moisten gel sheets, wet towel for sponging throughout the night, and the voltaren insert medication located next to the bed.
Estimated recovery, 5 days tops!
Wish us luck.

Sicky boy..

Arif got fever again tonight.
It actually started last night, but just slightly warm as compared to normal.
But now it's getting serious as he vomited all the food before spiking a temperature.
I just had to give him the insert as he refused to sip it because he scared he might vomit it again.
Hope it's not tonsil.

Choo Choo..

Nope.. not Jimmy Choo..
It's Choo Choo Thomas the tank engine.. yup.. Thomas and his friends..

Don't be surprised, Thomas can entertained him for hours and hours just by going around the track.
Today Arif purged more than yesterday.. almost every hour!
But the poo was getting lesser and slowly became thicker.
Doctor said nothing to worry, that's the reaction of antibiotics.
Now he has rashes on his bum and kept complaining on the uncomfortable feeling of it.

The good news to share was that Arif has started eating too today!
Unlike the days before, his appetite have came back today and he wants to eat everything, although not as much, but still he was eager to try tasting it..

And his favourite of the day is, munching on powdered Horlicks!

Numbers

6 books have been read over and over again..
5 clothes were changed yesterday, due to..
4 times of purging and twice vomiting
3 bottles of glucose drip already
2 daily inter-venous antibiotic
1 awful smecta oral intake
That's all for yesterday's event..
I wonder what numbers we're gonna be playing with today.. interesting, huh?
Doctor told me that the purging continues because that is how his body is actually responding to the antibiotics and we need to give it 3 days for the diarrhoea to settle down.
He vomited to let the phlegm out, thanks to the every 4 hours of nebulizer.. yeah, he has slight flu and bronchitis too..
Now he's already onto his 3rd water (glucose + sodium) drip at the moment.
Hope that's more than enough to counter the loss.

Looks like fun, huh?
Well, u have to go through this..
..to get here..
Yes, Arif was rushed to the hospital this afternoon, due to excessive purging and dehydration..

My poor baby boy has no appetite at all today and hardly ate anything since morning..
And the worse thing was that he kept purging with a whole lot of water came out..
And definitely eyes starting to look swollen and dried lips and cracked skin, showing signs of dehydration..
A whole bottle drip just for him..

Don't worry my cutest.. mommy's here..
