I love weekends (and holidays)!
For the reason that all my relatives around Klang Valley will get together to break-fast at one place.
And once again this week, the ever so famous sumsum berlauk, made its comeback!
True, I don't know how to make this.
But my grandma does ! Hehe..
Ok, I'll make an entry of it, one of these days, if I managed to get her to spill me the how-to.
Our family tree is genormous.
And during gathering times like this, we have to split ourselves up to eat.
The male clan usually gets to dine on the table.
And the ladies plus kiddies, get to have the real dining experience.
Feast your eyes on the ever so delicious and plenty of desserts !
You wouldn't even noticed that our main meal was Curry Mee ! bwahahaha
Here's some of my cousins, patiently waiting for the Azan.
Yeayyyy.. another 9 more days to go till Eid !!
Something from the mind of an unpredictable-woman-mommy-wife who wish she could eat anything and everything and still never ever gain weight. Now thinking of moving to another country.. Too much political drama here!! Well, not that I care about it.. but still..

Happy 53rd Independence Day, Malaysia !!
Once upon a time, there was this girl.
Every year in the month of August, she got struck with fascination towards the Malaysian flags.
She hanged them up around the balcony.
She rushed to the petrol station and grabbed a few mini-flags to tape it onto her bicycle, and onto her dad's and mom's car.. (which then, her dad scolded her because the tape got stuck onto the car and difficult to remove).
She used her mom's phone and text her relatives with happy independence day wishes, on the eve of independence.
She stayed up at night, waiting for the countdown telecast.
She dragged her aunts and cousins in the wee morning, to Dataran Merdeka to witness the annual parade.
(and when not, she woke up early to gawk at the parade on live TV streaming)
And, she kept doing the same thing, over again, same time, the year after.
There was once, her flags gone missing.
The ones she placed around the house gate, were gone in one night.
Then they found out that the drug addicts stole them all.
Not just hers, but flags from other houses around the neighborhood, and even those in schools, were stolen.
She cried.
Because it was her effort rummaging through the garbage, in searched of the broom sticks, to tie the flags, and knot them onto the gates.
And the drug addicts stole not only the flags, but together with the broom sticks !!
I was that girl.
I was not born during the era when the Malaysian fought for independence..
I was not even with parents who's related to army or government agencies..
But, I grew up, as a child, very much aware of what independence is to Malaysia..
I grew up with schoolmates who ran around the campus with flags shouting Merdeka! at the strike of midnight (this was during my years in boarding school).
I grew up debating which buildings in the city has the biggest Malaysian flags displayed.
I grew up with the feeling of excitement, celebrating the moment of joy of the Independence day.
Oh how I wish kids (and adults too) of today inherits such high spirits.
I miss those days...

Flat out..
This is what happened, after being dragged by mommy, around the Gurney Plaza.
I have spend thousands of ringgit buying car seats for them.
But in the end, they insisted on sitting/ sleeping on the pillows when traveling.
I have been using car seats for them since childbirth, but now since they can voice out their own opinions, things have gone astray.
Hmm.. do you use car seats for your children?
Let me know if you have any ideas on how to enforce the car-seat thingy again?
The must take, ferry ride !
Oh this is a must, indeed !
You may think we are like cheesy tourist, but who cares !
We really love the ferry ride, and we can only get it here, in Penang, of course.
So, lets just enjoy the ride.
My lunch..
Not mine, of course,.
It's Arif;s, to be exact.
As he's too young to be fasting.
And it always worries me that I'm not feeding him enough.
But I'm glad to report that he successfully finished the whole piece of 1901 hotdog for lunch.
Good boy !
Now lets continue shopping, shall we.. hehe..

Weekend getaway..
We gonna be having a long weekend ahead.
Today is a public holiday due to Nuzul Al-Quran,a national event to mark the revelation of the first verses of the holy book to Prophet Muhammad (SAW).The celebration is one of the highlights of the Islamic holy month of Ramadhan.
And coincidentally, our Independence Day falls on 31st August, hence, another public holiday is coming.
So we decided to take the leave, and go somewhere.
The destination, none other than, Penang.
But instead of hanging out at relatives house at Kepala Batas, we decided to check into Krystal Suite, which located in the line of sight to the Queensbay Mall.
Hmm.. I can feel the shopping vibe kicking in..
Lets just see how bad the damages will be, later..

Step 2 : Planning for the outcome
Just because I don't have any meeting scheduled for the afternoon, I'm able to draft out the pattern.. which I have to admit that I suckkk at it !!
I had to ask my officemate, QZ, for help..
I think I may be having some mental block..
Time has run out.
If I don't start doing it this weekend, I may not be able to finish it in time for Eid-Fitri !
Errrkkkkk..
This is NOT going as planned..

Prezzie from Daddy
Out of the blue, for no particular reason, my dad gave me this, last night.
I have a strong feeling that my sister was behind this, and I knew that it's true as soon as I saw one on her wrist too !So yeah, we're still daddy's little girls.
And being fair to both kids, my dad just have to buy one for me during his outing with my sister yesterday.
Thank you AYAH !!
This watch fooled everybody.
It may look like the 5-digit pricey Chanel J21 (ohhhh how I wish! ) ;
But it's actually an RM250 Fossil !
And the material is plasteramic, and the crystal looks like diamonds ! hehe..
This plasteramic hype started off when ToyWatch USA introduced line of watches that looks like hard metal exxy watch.
It's super lightweight and comes in tons of gorgeous colours.
It has been spotted on Sandra Bullock.
Also on the ever so cute Sophia Bush.
And even Michelle Obama !
Today, not only ToyWatch, but other brands too has come out with plasteramic watches, such as Fossil, Guess, and Diesel.
Hmm..
I think I may need a white and a red too..
*wink*

Amin's favourite place on earth
Until this very day, his favourite spot is the Petrosains at KLCC.
Our first visit was last March, and he has been pestering about it ever since, especially when we're window shopping at KLCC, like today.
Hmm.. It's not that we don't want to bring him there anymore, but we need to start off early in the morning if we want to cover the whole place.
No, the place is not as huge as the Planetarium, or the National Zoo, but there's soooooo many things to do here and we hate to have to rush through them all, like during our previous visit, as it closes early, at 5.30pm.
At every corner, at every turn, at every wall, there's an exhibit to see, read, hear, touch and play!
And when I say play, I really mean it.
Check out this kids-size-digger!
It's definitely any Bob-the-Builder fans dream come true.
Absolutely super fun to play with, that even hubby was tempted to try !
Yes, I have pics to proof !
If you think Petrosains is all about science and gadget, well, you're wrong.
Coz there's the Dinosour world in displays too.
And of course, the Malaysian-latest hype, Astronauts !
Check out Amin's face inside the space suit.
I have to congratulate Petrosains for they really understand the kids needs to learn and play.
Not only the exhibits are kids friendly, they even have a dedicated playing area, a plain old indoor corner where kids can take off their shoes, run around playing blocks and slides and tumble up and down the cushioned sofas.

Yeay, we did it !
Amin finallyyyy made it today !
ONE full day of fasting.. hoorayyy !!
It must be the environment as we spent the evening at my relatives place, and Amin got to play with 9 year old Adam and his brother 7 year old Alif, who both were trained fasting since they're 5 years old. They got distracted playing, dozed off in the afternoon and by the time they woke up, it's already dusk.
We celebrated today with traditional kampung dishes.
Started off with pecal, which is a mixture of vegetables, eaten with peanut sauce.
The main dish was white rice with fish curry, spicy fried squid, fried fish and vegetable soup.
And for dessert we have the fruit cocktail, batik cake and a traditional dish, sumsum berlauk with sambal ikan nyiur..
This sumsum berlauk is a famous dish originating from the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia, and in my case we're from Pahang / Terengganu.
This is one of the best thing about the Malaysian culture because almost each state has their own famous dessert dish.I wonder what we will be having next.. hmm...

Arrrkkkkk.. double almost !!!
Shoottttt !
Another less than an hour to go and he just couldn't take it any longer..
There goes Day 4 (Sat) - break fast at 6.40pm
Honestly speaking, mommy is feeling disappointed today..
Yeah, I know, he's still small..
But, still I'm upset.
Maybe I put too high expectations on him, huh?

Yup, at Marché, of course..
I managed to snap pics of the loo..
How lame is that? bwahahaha

A day trip down south..
..to Singapore.
Yeah, this is an old news.
I forgot to blog about it earlier.
Oh well, better late than never, huh?
It was a last minute decision to just make a trip down south, over the weekend.
We drove down to JB on the night of 25th June 2010.
First time taking advantage of hubby's relatives in JB and crashing over their place for the night.
We parked the car at the terminal and went on foot into Singapore.
Took the bus, then the train.
And then on foot.
Seriously, it was indeed an adventure !
Our first and the only target was Takashimaya.
We were indeed lucky because on that very day, it was the Toy Story 3 movie promo.
There were appearances by the movie characters, Woody and Buzz..
And toys were on crazy discounts.
Yes, I was more excited than the kids.. obviously!

We headed back to JB by 7pm and yeah, that was it, really.
Conclusion:
- Kids stuffs such as toys and branded clothing lines are cheaper in Singapore during this Great Singapore Sale, compared to Malaysia.
- Adult branded clothing lines such as Guess, Gap, etc are also cheaper in Singapore compared to Malaysia.
- Food, more expensive.
- Other branded stuffs like handbags, shoes, leather goods, are more expensive.
- Malaysian customs imposed tax on the toys bought by us.. although we kept telling them it's for the boys and not that we're selling them or anything and duhhhh, they're just in two Takashimaya paperbags!! Not a whole truckload!! We were charged RM30.
- Next time, bring stroller ! We decided not to coz we thought it's gonna be difficult to load it up onto the bus/ train but really, it's not that hard. Carrying Arif around was a pure pain. So, yeah, just take the damnnn stroller next time, ok, huney!!!

Amin's fasting attempt
Update :
Amin managed to fast till 3pm !!
With cracked dry lips and tired eyes, he break-fast with plain water, then milk and then soup.
He was actually more thirsty than hungry.
So, yippeeee for him !
Mommy soo proud of you dear!!
Slow and steady.. slow and steady..Mommy soo proud of you dear!!
************************
Today is the beginning of the Ramadhan, the fasting month for the muslim all around the world.
We started the day with Sahur, filling up the belly at 5am.
Amin is 6yrs old this year and he's so excited to puasa (fasting) as all of his kindy-mates have been talking about it, and the teachers are teaching and encouraging them too.
He woke up after just one-time shake from me.
He was indeed very sleepy, but managed to open his mouth to chew the rice.
Menu for this morning is rice with marinated lamb and fried bean sprouts.
I'm gonna tell teacher to train him for fasting but just ask him at noon if he's hungry or not.
It's not compulsory for him anyway.
But I'm so proud of his intention.
Let's just see how it works out today..
